The newest tourist attraction

Welcome to the newest tourist attraction this side of the U.S. of A! Wet suit, rubber boots and shop vac mandatory. Bring your fishing poles! Reservations are filling up quickly so make yours today! Location: Our basement, U.S.A. Open year round.

Yup, you're seeing that right...that was our basement last night. Today...just picture the line of water up to at least the 3 if not 4 inch mark. Our landlord refuses to fix the basement because it costs too much. So half the square footage is down in the basement and is completely unusable..because THAT is what we get everytime it rains or snows. Countdown to move out...30 days from now. Cross your fingers. I'm thankful we didn't buy the house before all this mess happened. You can bet we aren't buying it with a FINISHED basement like that! This would be the fifth time I've sucked the river up and poured it down the shower drain. I don't have time to do it this time! I have a sick child and a history test to study for! So...the river sits.........

Perhaps its time to invest in a row boat...?

Shopping

Back to the world of house shopping here we go! Is it illegal to keep a child in the same school for the rest of the school year if the new house you're in is zoned for a different school? There is only 4 months left of the school year...It is soooo worth it for me to drive every morning to take her to the same school so she can finish the year. She's in kindergarten after all. Anywho, sorry for the bad picture quality. It was a pain in my bahonkus trying to load these pictures for some reason. Check out my number one choice. We're putting an offer on it pronto. Its perfect for our little family of three.
It is a 2,074 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath one level house with a finished basement. Check it out.

The house is located on a cul-de-sac with no neighbors to its left.

It has a small dining room. Small is fine since we don't really have a suitable table...or any furniture for that matter. Oh the life of newlyweds...POOR newlyweds. :)

The basement is finished. It just needs a fresh coat of paint to lighten up the space. I don't believe there are any windows in this room. There is a gas fireplace though, which I LOVE to curl up next to.

I really like the kitchen. It has lots of cabinets for storage (kitchen storage is something we're severely lacking right now)

It even has an area perfect for a small breakfast table.
The backyard is covered with trees. Although I love trees, it would be nice to get rid of some to let more sun in the yard. There is a perfect tree for a swing. We would also need to put up a fence for our dog.

The bathroom in the hallway has a double sink and lots of space.

The living room now has wood floors. They plan to replace the carpet on the stairs and bedrooms before selling it.
I like it. Cross your fingers!
By the way..its snowing today.

Let's Go Fish!

It was an intense game of "Let's Go Fish". You know, that silly game with those primary colored fish opening and closing their mouths as they spin around like a merry-go-round? The object is to use the fishing pole to grab a fish at the exact moment their mouth opens. Whoever "catches" the most fish, wins. It was me against my daughter. My fishing pole was aimed, ready to catch the next victim. Meanwhile, my daughter must have been using magic bait because she was catching those fish left and right.

At closer glance, I realized she was holding the fishing pole incorrectly. Instead of holding it at the end, to let it dangle, she had it held straight and rigid, just perfect for getting it right into those fish mouths.

"Skylar you're cheating! You can't hold the fishing pole like that! I was wondering why you were catching those fish so fast!" "But mommy it's too hard the other way!" she said.
"Well it's not supposed to be that easy. You can't cheat to win or nobody will want to play with you" I told her as she threw one of the red fish across the table.

Let's just say, she spent the next five minutes with her nose to the corner.

As I sat listening to her cry in the corner, I thought, I bet this is how God feels about us. We're adults! But that doesn't change the fact that sometimes we act just like a child. We cry to God when we don't get what we want. But God has bigger plans for us, doesn't he? It may not be the outcome we hoped for at the moment, but as our Father, GOD knows what's best for us. Just like we hope we know what's best for our children.

I laughed to myself, as I pictured myself in the corner, lip sticking out, knowing that in my own way that's exactly what I do to my heavenly Father.

God can take the most innocent game of "Let's Go Fish" and turn it into a reminder of his love for us. Thank you God. I'm ready to come out of the corner now. :)

Hand In Hand

How did you spend YOUR New Years Day? Huh? Did you spend it snuggled under the covers? Did you go hunting for tigers in Pakistan? Did you swing from the tallest trees? Did you eat the greatest cheesecake on the face of the earth?

I spent mine hand in hand with two of my favorite loves on a brisk winter walk by the lake.

I sure can't wait to see what's in store for 2010. How bout you?

Old to you, new to me!

These people are amazing! I'm quickly learning how the ugliest piece of furniture or accessory can turn into a crown jewel. You must look past its exterior and see its potential, just like these gals did. Check it out. Chris at j-a-girl.blogspot.com transformed her hand-me-down buffet from her grandparents into a gorgeous new buffet that otherwise would have been an eyesore but now fits right in with her decor. The cost? The hardware..$30. You can't beat that!
Chelsea at roomtoinspire.blogspot.com used these old candle pillars she had laying around that she bought for .99 on two separate projects. Check out the first project:

She got the crown on clearance at Tj Maxx and made the tag "Queen" attached to the top. Cute!

Her second project:

and:

Into this:
Kelly at muchtodowithnothing.blogspot.com turned this ugly dated chair into a masterpiece with a little paint and fabric.

The old saying remains true. Don't judge a book by its cover....or don't judge a chair by its cushion?

Now if only I can learn to commit to things......
